I’d just completed the last of 13 Rock N’ Roll Marathons in the year 2010 when I noticed my nipples was extremely sore and painful to the touch. After a few weeks of soreness, I realized it wasn’t getting any better so I scheduled a doctor’s appointment and was later diagnosed with an aggressive form of Stage 4 breast cancer. It was hard to believe that I had breast cancer, but through athletes I trained to run ultra-marathons, also trained me how to be tough and fight against this incurable disease.
I won the battle with breast cancer and have been in remission since 2012. I continue to run and train athletes to help them reach unreachable goals; whether it is for a worthy cause or just completing a goal because they can.
I pray every day for a cure or even a vaccine to prevent the disease from ever happening again. For now I also continue to offer support and an ear to those going through diagnosis and treatment.
